Morning Star Family Home!

Sometimes  God does something that is just really cool.  Something that shouts His name....  Something that tells the world how much He loves the fatherless and delights in answering prayers on their behalf.   This is one of those stories.

In China they have a policy.  I'm not sure why, exactly, but orphans there who have been living in foster homes or private children's homes return to their original orphanage for a short time before their adoptive family comes for them.  Knowing this fact just about tore me apart during the months preceding our travel to China.  You see, Corrie is deaf.  I pictured this little girl who has always been safe and happy and loved in her foster-style-home, being sent to an orphanage in a different province--the one she was born in, but had spent little time in and would have no memory of (in fact, I believe the orphanage is a new facility anyway where she had never even lived.)  She would be dropped off among strange faces, overwhelmed by the presence of all these new adults and children who could not communicate with her, in a strange place.  An institution.  She would have no idea of knowing why or what would happen next.  No one could explain any of it to her.  I desperately prayed that God would get her through that time. I prayed that she would only have to spend the shortest time possible there, and that He would supernaturally speak to her Himself and comfort her heart.

As time went by and the day of our arrival drew closer, Corrie had still not left Morning Star.  The director still had not heard from the orphanage anything about her having to leave.  One night we were messaging back and forth, and during that time, she heard that Corrie was not going to have to go back to her orphanage at all!  The news was that she would be taken by her nanny on the night train the DAY BEFORE we arrived at the hotel in her original province where the adoption had to take place.  She would simply be placed straight from her nanny's arms directly into ours, right in our hotel lobby!  We had already planned on visiting Morning Star to meet everyone and see what Corrie's home was like months in advance.  We had expected Corrie to already be waiting at her orphanage far away.  But now it turned out we were going to actually meet her.  In her sweet little home, surrounded by everything and everyone familiar to her.  And the next day when it was time to bring her into our family, she would already know us!

Only God.  Only our loving Father who truly is Daddy to these precious children and adores them so much!

And so, that Sunday, the day after our adventure in Beijing with the great master artist, we slept in to fight off the jet lag a little more, took a cab to a place where we would meet some people from Morning Star, and went with them the rest of the way to the wonderful place with the precious people that have always been family to our Corrie and many other desperately sick babies.  And we had the immense privilege of meeting our new daughter!!

 The gate going in

The view of the street in back

And the view the other way.  Such a cute, quaint little neighborhood!

Sweet ayis (aunties) and babies

And here she is!!!  She doesn't look like she liked us much in this picture, but she really did!  :)  She took to us right away, just like I had hoped she would.  And we just fell in love with her!

She especially loved having fun with Daddy! :)

Mommy's sweet girl.  I have loved you for so long!

Laughing

Not sure why we were trying to block Corrie out of this picture, ;) but here is her ayi and her new mommy, both loving this girl!

So much fun with Daddy!

We had bought this pinwheel at a park that morning

Hugging sweet Jenny, one of the staff at Morning Star who has loved Corrie forever.

More fun with Daddy

And what is better than jumping into Daddy's arms?

She is a very silly girl!

Oh yeah...there are other babies there, too!  Cuties like this!  We had taken this book and bear to her from her family in the states waiting to go and get her!

And this is what happens when there is only one pinwheel!

Sweet boy

Cutie pie with her ayi

I love this little angel!

The bed on the left is where Corrie slept.  Another baby is probably in there now!  Corrie has moved up to a big girl bed! :)

Such cute decorations all around the house.

Love this in the hallway upstairs!

I loved this happy little guy.  His lips were blue from his heart condition.  So happy he has a family coming for him soon!  He just loved the book of pictures they had sent him, and he brought it to me to show him over and over again. :)

Time to eat!  Corrie had already eaten, but she went over to the ayis and tried to mooch more from the babies.  Look how big she is compared to all of them.  Here in our house she is the baby!

We were so blessed to be there with all of these wonderful ladies!  (Jenny is in the white shirt, and she and the nanny on her right were there when Cassandra was volunteering there back in 2010 and she met Corrie.  She loved them both so much!

And here they were getting Corrie ready to get on the train!  Look at her stylin' with that pretty red headband.  Her last moments at Morning Star...

We actually rode in the car with her and her nanny when they were dropped off at the train station.  Here we were getting ready to go, with all the babies and nannies watching from inside.

It was surreal riding in that car on the way to the station with this girl we had loved for so long who would soon become our daughter.  It was one amazing day!!

We are home and all together!!

Okay, we got back home on Friday night, we are rested (kind of,) picked up our kids yesterday, AND....  Cassandra got home from Peru today, and she will be here for a month!  It feels like a dream to have all of us here.  Honestly, I can barely believe this is real.  :)

So, I've been thinking about how I will blog about this.  I want to just jump in and talk about our homecoming, but I think instead I will start at the beginning, just as if I was blogging all along like I had planned on doing in China.  So, pretend like it's April 4.  That's when we got on the plane...

We had a smooth flight.  It was long and miserable (okay, it wasn't that bad,) and we arrived in Beijing.  We fought off the jet lag and spent some time walking around the city, which we hadn't really done the last time we were in China, since we had spent all our time doing touristy things.

Beijing is a really interesting city.  There are a lot of people.  Seriously.  I have never been to New York City, but I assume it's like that.  People everywhere walking, driving... everywhere. And the part we were in was very modern with sky scrapers and fancy stores.  A good bit of diversity in the people around us, too.  We didn't stick out like sore thumbs, anyway.  There was a long stretch of street that had a big food-vendors' market in the evening.  So many people crowding around at all the booths, buying fruits and things on sticks that I had no idea what they were, and I don't remember what else.  I wish I had my camera there.  I wanted to try some of the food, but our agency people had advised us not to, so we just  walked by and took it all in.  We didn't talk much because there were so many new sights and sounds everywhere, it was almost sensory overload.  And it was very fun. :)

Right after we left our hotel to walk down the street, a man got in step with us and started talking to us.  He was very friendly, asking us about where we were from and why we were there, etc.  I was thinking, "Wow, they told us the people here were friendly, and they really are!"  Then he explained that he was an art teacher, and would we like to come and see some of his and his students' work that was on display in a gallery this week because of the Tomb Sweeping Day holiday?  "Sure, we would love to!"  So, we followed him there, and before we knew it, a different guy--"a master artist" that made us so lucky to be there that day because he was there, was painting something personally for us with our names on it and everything.  And now it was finished, and wouldn't we like to buy it for only 600 yuan?  (about 100 US dollars.)  "Um, no thank you."  "Okay, how about 300?  100?"  "No."  "But I already painted it!  How much will you pay?"  "Sorry, we are not interested."  "But I already painted it!  How about 30 to cover the materials."  And, we still didn't do it.  Later he saw us walking across the street and came running over there carrying that scroll..."Do you like it?  How much will you pay?" "Sorry..."  And no lie, he actually spotted us walking another time and asked us again! Later we saw our friendly buddy on the same street corner a few more times chatting with all the Caucasians he came across.  So, that was fun.  ;)

That night we slept well because we were so unhumanly exhausted, and the next day we went to visit Morning Star--Corrie's home that she has lived in most of her life.  And that story is amazing, and I can't wait to tell it next time!

More pictures...

Here are just a few more pictures.  Most are on my camera.  Isn't she adorable??  (If you can't tell, she has a sucker in the last one.)  :)

We have Corrie!

HI, everyone!  If you've been checking my blog but not finding anything new, I'm sorry.  We've been having many technical difficulties.  I did want to give you a quick update with a couple of pictures.

I have to write quickly because I lose my connection, but we have Corrie!  And we are all doing great!  She is utterly precious.  So happy and fun, eats and sleeps well, and loves us (and most of all her daddy.  She just lights up when he comes in the room.)  We are so blessed and in love with this little peanut.  And she LOVES to play, play, play, so we go to bed exhausted each night.  (Well, part of that exhaustion comes from not being able to sleep on this bed.  I'm not sure why they bother with beds in this hotel.  They could save money and just put blankets on the floor. )  Anyway...

Thank you to all who have been praying.  God is good.  :)

We have lots of pictures, but many are on my camera and we can't put them on here until we get home.  We have a few from the cell phone, but only these two made it on here because of the technical difficulties.  The first one is from when we were making the adoption official.  Corrie gives her new family the thumbs up!  I will write lots more when I am able.  :)

Well..... it's almost time for us to go!!

Hi, everyone!

I've been busy lately, getting ready to take a little trip.  Just a little one.  Only a thirteen hour flight to CHINA!  In NINE days!!!

There's a certain little girl waiting there.  I'm pretty sure she doesn't know she's waiting for us, but she is.  She has no idea that her life will be changing forever in just over one week.

We are so excited!!!!

We got our travel approval!!!!!

Finally, finally, finally, after over a year of waiting and watching our sweet girl growing older in pictures,  we are at the end of this journey and will soon be on our way!!

Oh my goodness, I can't tell you how excited I am.  I've been trying to wrap my brain around this, and organizing in my head everything I need to do now before we go!

Here's a picture of her with some birthday presents she received.

I just love that tiara and necklace and purse.  She is just ready to go!  And we are soooo ready! :)

Just checking in...

Hi, everyone!

Just checking in since I haven't been on here in a while.  Life has been rich and full like usual.  We have our joys and disappointments going on all the time, don't we?  Overall, I am so thankful for this winter full of snow (We've had over 100 inches total this year.  So fun!)  and my house full of kids (soon to be fuller) and my amazing husband.  He's been up to something really awesome, and I'll share that with you next time.  I'll give you a hint...it has to do with our doctor Sarah.  For now, I will just say that we are patiently waiting for the glorious email or phone call, or whatever...announcing our travel approval.  It seemed to be taking forever, and then I realized that it was Chinese New Year over there, so of course nothing would happen.  And then CNY was done, but we still haven't heard anything.  It's frustrating for sure, but I truly do trust that God's timing is always right.  During the big celebration there, all the nannies leave for a week, and volunteers from the states stay with the babies.  Some of them were so kind to take lots of pictures of Corrie for us!  Here are a few of them...

Can you spot her in this picture with all her little siblings?

And we got some videos that are complete treasures to me.  She is learning some ASL.  She melts my heart!

I hope you all are having a terrific winter.  Thanks for stopping by!
